The SCAN 20 was a two-seat training flying boat made by the French manufacturer Société de Construction Aéronavale .
history
The SCAN 20 was developed after a tender by the French Ministry of Aviation for a training flying boat of the " Marine nationale ". The prototype was designed by Bernard Devèze in 1941 and continued to be built in secret after the occupation of Vichy France . The first flight took place on October 6, 1945. 30 aircraft with the more powerful Potez 8D engine were commissioned for the French Navy , but only 23 were delivered. According to another source, however, the French government's order for just 23 machines was canceled prior to construction.
construction
The machine was a cantilever high-wing aircraft built largely from wood with support floats arranged under the outer wings. It had a high-set double tail unit and a closed cockpit for four people with seats next to each other in two rows. The prototype was equipped with a Béarn 6-D in- line engine over the wing and powered a pusher propeller .
