S. Kudirka District Hospital, Alytus

The S. Kudirka District Hospital Alytus ( lit. VšĮ Alytaus apskrities S. Kudirkos ligoninė ) is the largest hospital in the Alytus District and in southern Lithuania . According to the legal form it is Viešoji įstaiga , a 'public institution'. There are 945 employees (2013), including 207 doctors (3 med. Dr.). It bears the name of Stasys Kudirka . The director is Alvydas Vitkauskas.

history

In 1812 there was an equipped military hospital , founded by the French troops of Napoleon when they withdrew from Vilnius , Kaunas and Simnas . In 1834 Prince I. Oginski built a hospital for the peasants (serfs) on the right bank of the Nemunas . During the First World War a hospital for typhus sufferers was founded. In October 1918, the Alytus District Hospital was built. In 1989, Alytaus rajono centrinė ligoninė became Alytaus rajono Stasio Kudirkos centrinė ligoninė .

In 1997 it was re-registered.
