SW ground nose

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SW Erdnase was the pseudonym of an author who, in his book The Expert at the Card Table published in 1902, describes finger skills, cheating and magic trick principles for playing cards . The book is still considered compulsory reading of card art and is affectionately known as "the Bible" or simply "earth nose". It has been published continuously in numerous languages since 1902. Erdnase's true identity is considered one of the best kept secrets in magic.

The Expert at the Card Table was the very first book in which the techniques of card-cheating and card art were described in detail and with many illustrations (over 100 pieces). In addition, Erdnase contributed many new grips and techniques that fundamentally changed the handling of playing cards.

It is also the book that "the professor" Dai Vernon (one of the most influential card artists of the twentieth century) said gained most of his knowledge of card art from it.

criticism

Among the biggest critics of Erdnase are Steve Forte and Daniel Madison . The object of criticism is that part of the book that deals with cheating.

"I strongly believe that only one plausible theory dominates the moves, words, and ideas presented in The Expert at The Card Table. SW Erdnase was not a professional card cheater, nor was he an expert at the card table. Erdnase was a clever sleight -ofhand enthusiast who pretended to be a cheater who specialized in cheating with moves and systems that he invented.
