SAP Business Warehouse ( BW for short ) is the data warehouse application (DW for short) from SAP SE and part of SAP NetWeaver . BW consists of components for data management ( Data Warehousing Workbench ), for defining user queries via an OLAP processor ( Business Explorer , BEx for short ), a data mining environment ( analysis process designer , APD for short ) and a component for controlling the Loading processes. The current version of the business intelligence solution from SAP has the release number 7.5 and is part of SAP NetWeaver 7.5 .

application

BW is particularly often used for DW applications ( reporting ) in the SAP ERP environment, as BW contains pre-made ERP extractors and associated data elements, OLAP cubes and reports in the so-called Business Content . This should enable faster development of data warehouse applications. BW is an integral and free part of several SAP solutions. The resulting very high market share, especially in Germany, prompts many companies to introduce SAP BW as a uniform business intelligence platform for the entire company. Further advantages of BW are the integration with Microsoft Excel and the JavaScript- enabled browser-based evaluation. Products from other business intelligence providers are sometimes used as front ends in addition to BW.

For the end user who creates or evaluates reports, there are several user programs supplied by SAP, which are summarized under the generic term Business Explorer (BEx). The BEx Analyzer essentially consists of VBA macros for Microsoft Excel. The following programs run independently of Excel: The BEx Web Application Designer for designing web templates with interactive elements, the BEx Report Designer for specifically formatted reports, and the BEx Information Broadcaster for precalculating and sending reports.

In the next few years, the BEx tools will be supplemented by components from Business Objects and later replaced. The direct connection of Xcelsius 2008 to BW is already possible now.
