SAP R / 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

R / 2 was used from 1979 ERP - software from SAP for use on mainframes . R / 2 ran on the operating systems MVS or VSE from IBM and BS2000 from Siemens . It was operated using text terminals such as the IBM 3270 . The successor system from 1993 onwards was R / 3 .

Before R / 2, R / 1 existed from 1975. The software was used on the IBM System / 360 . Before that, the RF system was used in financial accounting from 1973. This product was the first software from SAP.

The programming language (and in a broader sense also runtime environment ) was assembler at the beginning . The programming (including screens and associated module pools, update and batch programs) was carried out using predefined macros. Evaluations could also be programmed in the macro language ABAP ("General Report and Evaluation Processor"). The higher-level programming language ABAP IV was later developed, which is used in R / 2 and R / 3 to implement the application functions. The acronym ABAP was then reinterpreted (and internationalized) as "Advanced Business Application Programming".

Despite its old age, the system is still well known today because it was widely used by large companies (only for them it was affordable, also because of the data center required), and because of its long service life.
