B3 (Paralympics)

B3 is a functional classification for athletes that indicates the degree of disability relevant to competition in Paralympic sports . Athletes classified according to B3 must meet the following conditions:

"Visually impaired: From visual acuity over 2/60 to 6/60 and / or a visual field restriction of 5 ° to 20 ° (all classifications are based on the better eye and with the best possible correction)."

Derived starting classes

Only Paralympic athletes classified according to B3 are eligible to start in the following starting classes of Paralympic sports :

Nordic skiing (starting class B3 )

Alpine skiing (starting class B3 ) Biathlon (starting class B3 )

Athletics (starting classes T13 / F13 ) Swimming (start classes S13 / SB13 / SM13 )

Important aids and conditions for athletes classified according to B3 in the respective sports:

• Nordic skiing (starting class B3) & Alpine skiing (starting class B3) / biathlon (starting class B3): guides drive ahead or behind, lead by shouting or radio

More starting classes

Paralympic athletes classified according to B3 are entitled to start together with otherwise impaired athletes in the following starting classes of the Paralympic sports (with links to the starting classes):

Cycling (starting class B ) Triathlon (starting class PT5 )

Judo (starting class B ) Goalball (starting class B )

Rowing (start class LTA-VI ) Sailing (starting class proficiency level 7 )
