The Dutch company SBM Offshore (formerly IHC Caland ) is a holding company that operates as a supplier to the offshore oil and gas industry on a global basis. SBM Offshore is listed on Euronext Amsterdam .

history

The company began operations in the early 1950s and became a pioneer in single point mooring (SPM) as well as dynamically positioned oil drilling ships , mobile oil drilling platforms and heavy duty platform cranes .

The company emerged from various Dutch shipyards and has developed into an offshore specialist. SBM Offshore develops, operates and sells or leases large systems and containers for the oil and gas industry. It mainly produces floating platforms for the production, storage and handling of oil and gas. These can also be used as floating handling facilities for liquefied petroleum gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG). SBM Offshore also supplies special components for ships and offshore conveyor systems. The company has no sites or factories to manufacture these equipment. This is outsourced worldwide.

SBM Offshore was created in 1965 from the merger of several Dutch shipyards which merged under the name "IHC Holland". The production of oil tankers started, soon after the production was expanded to include oil platforms. In 1969 a special company "Single Buoy Mooring Inc." (SBM) was founded.

Due to the crisis in the shipbuilding world, a troubled time dawned in which various companies were sold and others acquired. Eventually two companies emerged: IHC Inter Holdings and Caland Holdings. In 1984 the two companies merged as IHC Caland . The company finally sold the last shipyards in 2004 and was renamed SBM Offshore on May 1, 2005.

At the end of 2012, SBM spun off its design department called GustoMSC and sold it to Parcom Capital .
