SC Gelnhausen
The 1934 Gelnhausen eV chess club is a chess club in Hesse . He is a member of the Landessportbund Hessen eV and the Hessian Chess Association.
Especially in the 1970s, under the patronage of the retail entrepreneur Peter Joh, the club developed into one of the leading in Hesse.
The club achieved its greatest success to date in 1976 when the teams won the Hessen championship and the associated promotion to the then four-track Bundesliga 1. The 1976/77 season in the German Federal Chess League remained the only one in the top German division.
As of June 8, 2020, the association had 51 members. The first team plays in the Schach-Verbandsliga Nord in the 2019/20 season.
