SEAD Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance is an academy for contemporary dance and performance in Salzburg, founded by Susan Quinn in 1993.

SEAD is an academy for contemporary dancers and choreographers. Coupled with the professional training company, SEAD is also a production and event location for contemporary dance as well as a lively dance center with open courses for adults, young people and children. SEAD has established itself as a major European training center for contemporary dance. Every year several hundred dancers apply for the worldwide auditions in Europe, Asia, South America and the USA. Around 100 students from more than 30 nations attend the academy's various training programs. There is a four-year undergraduate program and two postgraduate programs for professional dancers (Company BODHI PROJECT) and choreographers (ICE International Choreographic Exchange). The MoveMentors training series (since 2011) is an additional training format for professional dancers. The international faculty of SEAD is largely composed of changing lecturers, choreographers, dancers and educators. SEAD maintains several collaborations with international universities, including an exchange program with the Dance Department / NYU Tisch School of the Arts (New York, USA) since 1998 . On the initiative of SEAD there is the international dance exchange project "Hidden States", which brings dancers, choreographers, lecturers and dance institutions in Salzburg and Israel together and enables guest performances.

Production and event location

As part of the professional training company, numerous dance pieces are created at SEAD, which are regularly presented to the public in public shows and festivals. Annual formats are New Faces New Dances (since 2003 with Szene Salzburg), Xchange Festival (since 2014 with Szene Salzburg), Symphonic Dance (since 1995), Lust am Risk (since 1997), X-Mas (since 1998), because the night (since 2013 with ARGEkultur) as well as to spring and Check one two (since 2013). Course program

Company BODHI PROJECT

SEAD is the "home base" and production site of the contemporary dance company BODHI PROJECT. This postgraduate program for young dancers was founded by Susan Quinn in 2008 to serve as a bridge to a professional dance career for young dancers. BODHI PROJECT is integrated into the SEAD academy system as an independent “Professional Company Year”. At the invitation of the artistic director Susan Quinn, choreographers and dancers come together in Salzburg to work on new pieces. The works will be premiered in Salzburg and will then be presented as part of the international touring activity.

BODHI PROJECT can also be seen as a platform for young contemporary choreography. Since the company was founded, various choreographers have worked with BODHI PROJECT and created 36 world premieres. There were almost 200 appearances at European festivals and theaters in Belgium, Germany, England, Finland, France, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia, Spain, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Since 2016 BODHI PROJECT has been touring outside of Europe for the first time to festivals in the USA, South Africa and Israel.
