The SEPTA Route 100 , also known as the Norristown High-Speed Line , is a high-speed railway in the US state of Pennsylvania . It connects two suburbs of Philadelphia , Upper Darby Township in the west and Norristown in the northwest. It is 13.4 miles (21.56 kilometers) long, has 22 stations, and is operated by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA).

The Philadelphia and Western Railway Company opened the line from Upper Darby, 69th Street, to Strafford on May 22, 1907 . Branching off this line at Villanova, the railway to Norristown was put into operation on August 26, 1912. After the completion of a track connection, the Lehigh Valley Transit Company also ran the route from Norristown to Upper Darby with their railcars from Allentown from December 12, 1912 . This ended on September 24, 1949. The line from Villanova to Strafford was later closed.

Route 100 uses concepts from both subway and interurban systems. On the one hand, the route is double-tracked and free of crossings and has elevated platforms and conductor rails . On the other hand, it is outside the most densely built-up areas, the trains are solo multiple units and only run in single or double traction; Stop is only on request and with controlled entry. In contrast to most of the other interurban suburban railways in western Philadelphia, Route 100 does not use the Pennsylvania broad gauge (1581 mm), but standard gauge .
