SES-2 is a commercial communications satellite from the Luxembourg company SES SA
It was placed in geostationary orbit with Arabsat 5C on September 21, 2011 at 21:38:00 UTC with an Ariane 5 launcher from the Center Spatial Guyanais rocket launch site in Kourou . The start was delayed by a day, as employees of the Italian company TELESPAZIO had previously gone on strike.
The three-axis stabilized satellite is active with 24 C-band - as well as 24 Ku - transponders and two 2.3 m sized antennas and equipped to provide telecommunications services from the position of 82 degrees East North America and the Caribbean Islands.
