The SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar GmbH & Co. KGaA (formerly SHS structure-Holding-Stahl GmbH & Co. KGaA ), based in Dillingen / Saar is a management holding company for the steel industry in the Saarland .

Significant holdings in the Saarland steel industry are bundled in SHS. SHS directly holds 74.90% in Saarstahl and 26.17% in Dillinger Hütte . There are also indirect holdings, as Saarstahl has a 33.75% stake in Dillinger Hütte, which in turn holds 25.10% in Saarstahl. In this respect, SHS is the largest shareholder in the Saarland steel industry.

Even if both Saarstahl and Dillinger Hütte are legally independent companies, SHS, as the parent company, still performs central functions for its subsidiaries. These include central functions such as human resources, finance, general administration, risk management and auditing. Production and sales remain with Saarstahl and Dillinger Hütte.

In the consolidated annual financial statements of SHS as of December 31, 2015, the stake in Saarstahl was fully consolidated due to the stake of 74.90%, while that in Dillinger Hütte was only managed as a stake due to the lower stake.

In the 2013 financial year, sales of EUR 2,190.5 million (previous year: EUR 2,390.1 million) were generated. The consolidated loss was EUR 39.5 million (previous year: profit of EUR 22.0 million). The group employed an average of 6,999 people in 2015 (previous year: 6,905 people). The parent company of SHS is the Montan-Stiftung Saar , based in Völklingen , which was founded by the Saarland steel groups Dillinger Hütte and Saarstahl and is closely related to the state of Saarland . This foundation was established as a means of structural policy as a result of the steel crisis and the related upheavals in the Saarland steel industry. The foundation's tasks are to promote science in research and teaching, including the next generation of academics, to promote professional qualification measures with the aim of avoiding unemployment, to promote environmental protection projects and to promote and strengthen the steel industry on the Saar. To finance its foundation tasks, the foundation relies on profit distributions from its subsidiary SHS.
