The SIEGE residential complex is a residential complex in Darmstadt . The building ensemble is a typical example of brick expressionism and has been classified as a cultural monument for architectural and urban historical reasons .

History and description

The SIEGE residential complex was built in 1929 and 1930 according to plans by the architect and chief building officer Hans Kleinschmidt . The three-wing, four-storey residential complex is stylistically part of brick expressionism . The three wings of the residential complex are grouped around an inner courtyard open to the south . The dark red burnt brick contrasts with the light concrete pilaster strips that structure the facades on the lower three floors . Due to this construction, the top floor seems withdrawn. Typical for the construction period are the flat roof and the corner windows. The residential complex survived the Second World War largely unscathed.

The SIEGE residential complex was named after the owner "Siedlungsgesellschaft für das Verkehrstersonal" (SIEGE). The main wing with its horizontally emphasized middle section belongs to Adolf-Spieß-Straße by post . The western side building belongs by post to Riedlingerstraße ; the eastern side wing to Teichhausstraße .
