The SIPA S.1100 was a three-seat COIN aircraft produced by the French manufacturer Société industrial pour l'aéronautique .

History and construction

The S.1100 was developed on the basis of a tender by the French War Ministry for a guerrilla combat aircraft at the beginning of the Algerian War . The aircraft was designed as a middle-decker and had a conventional tail unit. It was driven by two radial engines -1340-R S3H1 Wasp Pratt & Whitney and had a retractable spur wheel chassis . To improve visibility for ground attacks, the bow was generously glazed. The first flight took place on April 24, 1958, but the prototype performed poorly.

In order to accelerate the introduction of this aircraft type, the government had already ordered 100 copies in 1957, but these were canceled again because the American T-6 Texans had already been delivered for use in the Algerian war.

The prototype crashed in Villacoublay on July 2, 1958, apparently due to a pilot's error during a flight demonstration .
