The diesel locomotives SNJ 11 and 12 were bought by the private Swedish company Stockholm – Nynäshamn Järnväg (SNJ) in 1951 to replace steam locomotives in shunting service.

The two locomotives were based on the MaK standard type 575 C15 and had a diesel-hydraulic L37 gearbox from Voith . They were a little stronger and longer than the SJ V3 , but lighter and faster. They differed in the windows and hoods, because they were built as demonstration locomotives by MaK. They had a maximum axle load of 15 tons.

The SNJ became state-owned in 1957 as part of the general nationalization of the railways . It remained an independent company until 1968 and was then taken over into the SJ network.

SJ T8

The SNJ 12 with the construction number MaK 500002 was taken over by Statens Järnvägar (SJ) from the SNJ in 1958 and was given the number T8 208 . In 1964 it was converted and in 1965 it was redesignated as the T31 138 .

SJ T31

SNJ 11 was taken over by SJ 1963 from Stockholm – Nynäshamn Järnväg , the locomotive with the build number MaK 500001 was given the new designation T31 139 . The locomotive was rebuilt for the shunting service at SJ, whereby the manual transmission was improved. It was repainted like the other SJ locomotives in brown.

T8 208 , the former SNJ 12 , was also equipped with an improved manual transmission in 1964 and was given the number T31 138 .

Both locomotives were in service in Norrköping from 1966 to 1967 , were decommissioned on October 1, 1969 and scrapped in Vislanda in 1970 .
