Benno Wintersteller

Benno Wintersteller (born November 17, 1940 in Strobl ; † October 8, 2018 in Wels ) was an Austrian Benedictine of the Kremsmünster Abbey and literary scholar .

Live and act

Johann Wintersteller graduated from the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster and then began studying theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome as well as studying English and German in Salzburg, which he completed with a master's degree in theology and a doctorate. From 1972 to 2005 he was a teacher at the Stiftsgymnasium. He was prefect at the boarding school in Kremsmünster. Wintersteller also worked as a chaplain in Kremsmünster-Kirchberg .

Wintersteller's editions of the complete works of Simon Rettenpacher were created in close cooperation with the Institute for German Studies at the University of Vienna and the literary scholar Herbert Zeman .

Wintersteller was prior of the Kremsmünster monastery community from 1996 to 2007 . He is also said to have been a confessor and close confidante of the former Konviktdirektor Alfons Mandorfer .
