Osterode district
The Osterode district was an administrative unit of the Harz Department in the Kingdom of Westphalia , which existed between 1807 and 1813.
territory
The district was formed from parts of the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg , who were in West and Upper Harz and untereichsfeldischen Office Lindau . Osterode had 42,567 inhabitants and was despite its areal size the district with the lowest population density. In contrast to the other three districts of the Harz Department , Osterode had a completely civil administration that employed only people from the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg .
organization
The district was headed by a sub-prefect . The sub-prefect of the Osterode district was the former assessor at the Erfurt-Eichsfeld War and Domain Chamber August Heinrich Kuhlmeyer . After Kuhlmeyer's appointment as chief prefect , August Wilhelm Francke , who later became the mayor of Magdeburg , who at that time had been general secretary in the Magdeburg district in the Elbe department, was appointed as the new sub-prefect. In the last months of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Francke brought many new ideas from his administration in the Elbe department to Osterode (e.g. new diversion routes for the postal service ). However, he was unable to implement most of them.
The district council to control the tax lists was formed by the canton maires Berensbach, Crauel and Mönnich, Conrad Paulmann, Andreas Dameral zu Osterode, Heinrich Mehlis zu Klaustal, Messrs. Jahn, Spieß, Kern, Schönian, Starke and the Osteröder judge Schulz.
