Lists on the subject

SOM (Stand-off Mühimmat Seyir Füzesi) is a high-precision cruise missile that can be launched from the air . It was developed under the direction of the Science and Technology Research Council of Turkey ( TÜBITAK ); It was first presented during the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Air Force on June 4, 2011 at the Çiğli Air Force Base in Izmir . Tests were carried out on August 9, 2011 with an F-4E Phantom .

Developed since 2006 for the F-4E 2020 and F-16 Block 40 combat aircraft , the SOM cruise missile is the first domestic, unmanned military guided missile for the destruction of both stationary and moving targets from a stand-off distance of over 250 Kilometers. Certification processes are in progress so that SOM can also be used by the F-35 .

The turbofan engines are the result of a collaboration between the Turkish arms company Kale Aero (formerly Kale Havacilik) and US arms companies.

In addition to Turkey, the armed forces of Azerbaijan use the cruise missile.

variants

TÜBITAK is developing SOM in three different versions that can also carry different warheads.
