Pierre-André Bovey (born October 17, 1942 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss composer and flautist .

Life

Pierre-André Bovey attended the St. Michael College in Freiburg. After graduating from high school, he studied flute from 1958 to 1963 with André Bosshard , principal flutist of the Bern Symphony Orchestra . From 1959 to 1963 he also studied music theory with Lucie Dikenmann at the Institute for Musicology at the University of Bern . In 1963 he received a diploma from the Swiss Music Education Association (SSPM). In 1969 he completed a concert diploma with André Jaunet at the Zurich Conservatory . From 1969 to 1972 he studied counterpoint and composition with Rolf Looser at the Biel Conservatory .

He gave several concerts in Switzerland and France. In addition, since 1990 he has led the flute ensemble Intercity Flute Players and is a member of the Trio Coriolan . He is a member of the Swiss Tonkünstlerverein and the Swiss Music Education Association. Bovey composed more than 100 works, mostly chamber music. His compositional style can be compared to that of Albert Roussel , Charles Koechlin and Willy Burkhard . From 1963 to 2007 he taught at the Biel Conservatory. Markus Hofer is one of his students . He is part of the team at the L'art pour l'Aar festival in Bern.

His works were u. a. premiered by the Huttwiler Chamber Orchestra , the ensemble bern modern and the Ensemble Sortisatio .
