Hills End is a small town in the Australian bush many days from the nearest big city. Every year there is an adult picnic, where the 14-year-old Adrian Fiddler is allowed to accompany his father, the sawmill owner Ben Fiddler.

But shortly before that, Adrian had a bitter argument with his classmate Paul Mace; Adrian even beats Paul. As a result, Mr. Fiddler forbids Adrian to take part in the picnic and, as a punishment, lets him take the class teacher Miss Godwin and six other children, including Paul, on a day trip to the mountain caves.

The adults soon set off and leave Hills End - not knowing that the city will be hit by a storm in a few hours that will destroy the city.

The children, who soon lose Miss Godwin, return to the completely devastated city after they have survived the storm in the caves. Here they have to try not only to work together against all differences, but also to establish contact with the outside world.

Because even Ben Fiddler tries from Stanley , a nearby town, by phone by Hills End to come by - but no one answers.

background

Although the young leading actors are now back to their private lives, at least John Noble (" The Lord of the Rings ") is one of the better-known actors today.

The city names Stanley and Hills End are fictional, by the way.
