SRET 1 ( French Satellite des Recherches et d'Etudes Technologiques , also MAS ( Maly Awtomatitscheski Sputnik )) was a French test satellite .
mission
SRET 1 was in the shape of an eight-sided polyhedron with a diameter of 50.9 cm and a weight of 15.9 kg. In order to be able to test different types of solar cells, two sides were provided with cadmium sulfide cells and two other sides with cadmium telluride cells. In order to maintain the desired performance for the experiment despite a failure, the remaining four sides were equipped with conventional silicon cells.
The launch took place on April 4, 1972 together with the Soviet communications satellite Molnija-1 20 on a Molnija launcher from the Plesetsk cosmodrome . This launch was the first French satellite to be launched with a Soviet launch vehicle.
successor
As the successor to the SRET series, SRET 2 launched into space on June 5, 1975 .
