The SS-N-29 is a ship-based anti -submarine guided weapon made in Russia. The system name is RPK-9 Medwedka / 89R .
development
The system development at MITT (Moscow Institute for Heat Technology) began in 1987. In the initial phase, the system was still called Grilltalpa . In 1993, a hydrofoil was equipped with the system for test purposes . Tests and shooting attempts were carried out on the Black Sea in 1993–1997 . In 1999 the system was formally included in the armament of the Russian Navy under the designation RPK-9 "Medvedka" .
technology
The guided missiles are housed in swiveling quadruple starting containers on the ship deck. A complex with two quadruple starting containers weighs 9200 kg and can be installed on ships with a displacement of 350 tons or more.
The guided weapon itself is a combination of a rocket propellant and the anti- submarine torpedo MPT-1UE . After firing, the RPK-9 flies on a ballistic trajectory into a predefined area in which the enemy submarine is located. The rocket propellant is detonated at a pre-calculated position and the torpedo floats on a parachute on the water. When it hits the surface of the water, the parachute detaches from the torpedo, which then descends and independently begins to search for the submarine. The MPT-1UE torpedo has a length of 3.05 m, a diameter of 324 mm and weighs 325 kg. He can fight submarines at a depth of 16 to 500 m. The maximum speed of the torpedo is 50 knots (around 93 km / h) and the maximum range is 13 km.

status
The Medvedka guided weapons are among those powerful weapon systems of Soviet design that were only ready for series production in the 1990s. Due to a lack of money, the Russian armed forces were only able to obtain the guided missile system to a very limited extent, which is why it is now almost exclusively produced for export.
The Russian Navy currently has no ship that is equipped with these guided missiles. The test platform, the hydrofoil Aleksandr Kunachowitsch the Babochka class (Project 1141) was decommissioned in 1994 and scrapped. A planned installation on the combat ships of the Stereguschtschi class (project 20380) and the Admiral Gorschkow class (project 22350) was not implemented.
