Armament

The Admiral Gorschkow class (Project 22350) is a basically new multi-purpose combat ship for the Russian naval fleet . It will have stealth properties and be intended for ship, submarine and air defense and is to be used, among other things, in the context of anti-terrorist missions . The ships are to replace the previous frigates of the Kriwak class and the destroyers of the Sowremenny class .

According to Admiral Massorin, the entire program will include "at least 20 units, five per fleet". It is the largest ship built after the end of the Soviet Navy .

draft

The basic draft of Project 22350 was approved by the Russian Navy in 2005. Originally it was a 5,800 ts displacement multipurpose frigate, which was equipped with vertical launching systems (VLS) for anti-ship guided missiles and anti-aircraft guided missiles, a 130 mm gun, three CIWS , helicopter , sonar and tow sonar.

Composite materials are used to reduce the radar signature. The lines of the ship with transom and sharp stem , in conjunction with non-retractable stabilizers, improve the ship's sea characteristics.

Propulsion system

Project 22350 has a combined diesel and gas turbine drive M55R ( CODAG ). The two drive diesel engines of type 10D49 for the cruise are located in the rear engine room. The two switchable Ukrainian gas turbines M90FR from Sorja-Maschprojekt or Russian AL-WMF from NPO Saturn are installed in the forecastle. The combination of diesel engines and gas turbines enables speeds of 15 kn (cruising speed) and 30 kn (maximum speed).

Because of the war in Ukraine , Ukraine placed an arms embargo on Russia , which meant that the M90FR gas turbines could only be used on the first two ships. From the third ship onwards, the Russian NPO Saturn will supply the gas turbines.

Armament

There are two UKSK vertical launching systems on the forecastle. These each consist of eight cells. The cells can optionally be equipped with BrahMos , P-800 Jachont and calibrated guided weapons. For anti-aircraft defense, another 32 cells for 9M96 guided weapons are housed in four blocks in front of the UKSK containers .

The artillery consists of a 130 mm A-192M gun and is controlled by the 5P-10 Puma fire control system. The maximum range of the gun is 23 km, the rate of fire 30 rounds / minute. Depending on the ammunition used, land, sea or air targets can be fought.

Two Palasch -CIWS on the hangar roof serve for close-range defense .

For anti-submarine and torpedo defense, there are packet NK starters on both sides of the hull, each comprising four torpedoes. U-boats are located using a Sarija sonar and a low-frequency Winjetka tow sonar . Targets should be able to be located with the sonar at 60 km.

At the stern of the ship there is a helicopter landing pad and the associated hangar . Kamow Ka-27 helicopters are used .

construction

The keel of the first class 22350 ship was laid on February 1, 2006 under the name of Admiral Sergei Georgijewitsch Gorschkow (succeeding the aircraft carrier Admiral Flota Sowjetskowo Soyusa Gorschkow, which was decommissioned in 1996 ) at the Severnaya shipyard in Saint Petersburg . The frigate was launched in October 2010 and should be handed over to the Black Sea Fleet in 2011 . Significant construction delays did not lead to the commissioning of the ship until 2018.

Calls

Shortly after its commissioning, the multi-purpose combat ship visited Cuba and was accompanied by three other ships of the Russian Navy. The US guided missile cruiser of the Arleigh Burke class, USS Jason Dunham , previously followed the ship formation through the Caribbean, sometimes only a few kilometers away.

On December 25, 2017, the Admiral-Gorschkow was deployed north of Scotland . The British frigate HMS St Albans (F83) escorted the ship close to British territorial waters near the Moray Firth . During this mission, the frigate's drive failed.
