Project 30bis , also known as the Skoryy class after the type ship , was a destroyer class of the Soviet Navy . It was developed immediately after the Second World War , but even in this phase no longer met the requirements of contemporary naval warfare, but was selected primarily because of the possibility of being able to produce it quickly.

history

Project 30bis was based on Project 30 , the Ognewoi class that had been used by the Soviet Navy during World War II. Range and seaworthiness have been improved by lengthening the hull and increasing the amount of fuel carried. Fuselage fittings, such as boilers and turbines , were taken over from the previous model, as was the armament.

technology

drive

The ships in Project 30bis had three heavy oil-heated steam boilers for two turbines, which propelled two propellers via shafts.

Armament

The main armament of the ships were two B-2LM turrets, each with two coaxially mounted 130 mm L / 50 guns . The towers stood on the longitudinal axis of the ships, one on the forecastle and the other on the stern. These weapons had been developed in 1936, had a maximum range of around 25 kilometers, but had only a low rate of fire of twelve rounds per minute per twin mount .

For greater distances, the air defense relied on a twin type 92-K mount that carried two 85 mm L / 52 guns. The guns were a development from 1939 and corresponded to the weapon that was also used in the T-34/85 main battle tank . Targets could be shot at at altitudes of up to 10,000 meters.

For air defense at close range was associated with a 37-mm-L per / 67- first of seven 70-K Single guns machine gun assembled, which reached per gun a cadence of 150 rounds per minute. The weapon was a development from 1936, but was later replaced on many of the project's ships with 37mm twin mounts V-11, four of which were placed on each ship.

Two sets of five-pipe torpedo tubes were set up amidships, one in front of and one behind the stern funnel, as torpedo armament . Each set of pipes stood on the longitudinal axis of the ships and could be swiveled to port or starboard.

variants

Project 31

Eight ships from Project 30bis were converted from 1960–62 as carriers for electronic reconnaissance equipment and were given the designation Project 31 . The displacement increased to 3,250 tons when fully loaded, the 85 mm anti-aircraft defense, the front torpedo set and the optical fire control device on the bridge structure were removed, the crew size reached 288 men.

Ships of project 30bis

A total of 70 destroyers of Project 30bis were built. Of these, 15 were given to friendly states or rented for several years: eight went to Indonesia , five went to Egypt and two to Poland . All ships in the project have now been decommissioned.
