Project 1154 "Jastreb" ( Ястреб ), ( Russian for " hawk" or "sparrow hawk ") , called Neustraschimy class by NATO , after the name of the type ship , is a class of submarine hunt consisting of two units - Frigates of the Russian Navy .

description

In the mid-1970s, the development of "Project 1154", an anti-submarine corvette began. At the beginning, the planned tonnage was around 1500 tons. In the course of the development time, the requirements increased. By adding additional weapon systems and a helipad , a modern multi-purpose frigate was finally developed (as "Project 11540"), which should replace the ships of the Kriwak class .

Before 1990, three ships of the class were laid down in the Kaliningrad Jantar shipyard and launched in the following years. However, only the first ship was put into service promptly. The second unit was only assigned to the fleet in 2009, the third was to be sold.

technology

The frigates are 129.6 m long and 15.6 m wide with a draft of 5.6 m and a displacement of 3800 t. The hull and superstructure are made of steel and designed using acoustic signature reduction technologies . The drive consists of a COGAG system with 2 × 2 gas turbines with 2 × 20,000 HP normal output and 2 × 37,000 HP maximum output.

Armament

"Jaroslaw Mudry" 2011 with attached starter for 3M-24 (SS-N-25) anti-ship missiles amidships

A 100 mm AK-100 gun is installed at the bow of the ship to combat aircraft as well as surface and coastal targets. The ammunition supply is 350 rounds, including armor-piercing projectiles. The rate of fire is between 30 and 50 rounds per minute and the range is up to 20 km. The weapon system includes a computer system for optical and radar target acquisition and tracking and automatic fire.

Up to 16 SS-N-25 marine target missiles can be carried to combat surface targets . Four quadruple starters can be set up between the two masts. Two on each side, with opposite firing directions, so that the starters on the starboard side eject the rockets to port and vice versa.

Three 533 mm torpedo tubes are installed on both sides towards the bow. In addition to torpedoes, they can also use the SS-N-15 and SS-N-16 guided missiles . A total of 16 weapons are available.

A Kamow Ka-27 helicopter and a twelve-tube depth bomb launcher RBU-6000 with a total of 96 projectiles are available for submarine hunting .

For air defense, four vertical take-off modules with an eight-tube drum magazine for 3K95 Kinschal ship-to-air missiles are installed in the bow (between the gun and the RBU-6000) . On both sides of the satellite antenna dome there is a 3K87 cortic complex as a combined artillery / rocket short-range defense system with a total of 64 rockets and 600 rounds of ammunition per gun.

Eight PK-10 decoys and two PK-16 decoys for launching radar, infrared and optical decoys are also available.

Further developments

There is a project 11541 “Corsair” as an export variant (with the corresponding export variants of the weapon systems and electronics). However, no ship has yet been laid on the keel.

Ships of Project 1154

Neustraschimy

The Neustraschimy ( Неустрашимый ) (Russian for "The Fearless") was laid down in Kaliningrad in 1986 and launched in 1991. She entered service with the Baltic Fleet on January 24, 1993 . As a result, she was temporarily transferred to the Black Sea Fleet and took part in the fight against piracy off the coast of Somalia in 2008 . Because of serious machine problems during these missions, she was sent back to the Baltic Sea to be overhauled in Kaliningrad. Four diesel gensets and two turbines had to be replaced before the ship returned to the fleet in August 2009. At the beginning of 2010 she carried out another mission to counter pirates in the Gulf of Aden .

Jaroslaw Mudry

The Jaroslaw Mudry ( Ярослав Мудрый after another transcription Yaroslov Mudry ), named after Jaroslaw the Wise , was laid down in 1990. Its construction stalled in 1994 due to a lack of funding and could only be continued in 2002. The ship was put into service on June 19, 2009 and is part of the Baltic fleet.

Tuman

The Tuman ( Туман ) (Russian for "fog") was laid down in Kaliningrad in 1993, but only 47% completed. In 2010, the shipyard announced that the naval command had not yet made a decision about the future of the ship. Six years later, in April 2016, the shipyard announced that the Tuman would no longer be built but would be scrapped.
