Project 956 Saritsch ( Russian Сарыч ) (German: Bussard ), designated by NATO as the Sovremenny class , is a series of guided missiles - destroyers of the Soviet and now Russian Navy . The ships of this class were built as part of the Soviet rearmament in the Cold War . The People's Republic of China had four ships of this class bought by Russia in 2008.
Mission profile
Developed in the 1970s, the influx of this surface combat ship type began in 1981 in the order of magnitude of the missile cruisers of the Kynda / Kresta classes built so far . Equipped with new weapon systems, the missile destroyers were still designed in accordance with the requirements of the Cold War for long-term use in the ocean, with a focus on surface forces. The strong artillery armament would also have enabled effective land targeting, for example to support amphibious operations.
technical description
Armament
There is a 130 mm twin tower of the AK-130 type on both the back and the Schanz , which can be used against both sea and land targets. The range is 22 km and the rate of fire is 30 rounds per minute and barrel. Fire control is via the Kite-Screech - fire control radar , which is installed on the bridge roof. It works in search mode in the X-band and in target tracking in the Ka-band . The range should be 75 km.
On small-caliber guns there are four 30 mm Gatling AK-630 M guns for air defense . The six-barreled guns have a rate of 5,000 rounds per minute and a range of 5,000 meters. They are installed on both sides with a system in front of the bridge and in the area of the helicopter landing deck. Two Bass Tilt fire control radars in the front superstructure are used for fire control.
The two quadruple launchers for the anti-ship missile SS-N-22 Sunburn significantly shape the appearance of the fore ship. The missile has an operational range of 120 km. The flight altitude is between seven and 20 meters and its speed is 780 m / s (Mach 2.6).
A system of the ship-to-air missile SA-N-7 Gadfly is available in the fore and aft for combating air targets . This missile has a range of 3.5 to 30 km at 830 m / s (Mach 3) and is equipped with a warhead of 70 kg. The steering takes place via a semi-active radar seeker head. There are 24 missiles on board for each starter. Six front dome fire control radars serve as target lights for the SA-N-7 missiles.
A bow sonar system and two six-tube RBU 1000 rocket launchers aft are available for submarine hunting. They have a range of 1,000 meters and an operating depth of 500 meters. An anti-submarine helicopter can also be carried. This is usually a Kamow Ka-27PL "Helix" . A telescopically extendable hangar is available in the aft superstructure behind the chimney to accommodate it. Two 533-mm double torpedo tube sets are scaffolded on both sides of the main deck at the height of the forward mast. The large antenna from the Fregat MAE series can be clearly seen in the front mast top. This is a 3D sea and air surveillance radar, which is also referred to as a top plate. The system works in the E-band (2-3 GHz) with a wavelength of 12 or 15 cm and has a range of 300 km. The detection range is 230 km from aircraft and 50 km from missiles.
drive
Project 956 is equipped with two high-pressure steam turbines which, with a total output of around 75 MW, allow a maximum speed of around 33 knots. A range of 4,500 nm is specified at a speed of 18 kn. Propulsion takes place via two shafts with fixed propellers. Two steam turbine generators (1,250 kW each) and four diesel generators (600 kW each) generate the electrical energy for the on-board network. The duration of the mission is 30 days and the crew consists of around 350 people.
