The Project 22800 , also known as the Karakurt class , is a modern corvette class with stealth technology from the Russian Navy . The ships can operate autonomously for up to 15 days. The delivery of a total of six project 22800 corvettes to the Russian Navy is planned by 2026.
In December 2015 the first two corvettes Uragan and Taifun of the Karakurt class were laid down in the Pella shipyard in Otradnoye near St. Petersburg. The shipyard was commissioned to build the first seven units. The next three units are to be built by the Morje shipyard in Feodosia on the Crimean peninsula . In addition, the Gorky shipyard in Zelenodolsk on the Volga was commissioned to build initially five ships.
The Pella shipyard expects the delivery of the first ship, the Uragan , in December 2017. The first unit from the Morje shipyard is to be handed over to the Russian Navy in 2018, while the ships from the Gorky shipyard between 2018 and 2021.
The lack of M 507 diesel engines and suitable manufacturers for them, apart from the Zvezda plant , means that, at the end of 2018, of the five completed boats, only the Uragan type ship is equipped with these and is doing its sea tests. The other four new buildings completed by this time are to be equipped with it by 2020.
