The 20380 project , also known as the Stereguschtschi class ( Russian "Стерегущий" ), is a class of multi-purpose corvettes of the Russian Navy .

prehistory

With the project 11661 a standard coastal defense ship for the WMF ( Russian : Военно Морской Флот (ВМФ) / Transkription Wojenno-Morskoi Flot (WMF) - German naval war fleet) should be built, but these plans failed with the financial crisis of the nineties. With the changed geopolitical situation, the call for a multi-purpose ship became loud. The design office "Almas" ( Russian Центральное Морское Конструкторское Бюро (ЦМКБ) "Алмаз" ) then developed the project 20380. The multi-purpose corvette of the 21st century is supposed to replace the ships of the project 1124 in particular .

The ship was designed to protect the 200-mile economic zone . This includes in particular the fight against piracy and counter- terrorism, protection of merchant shipping, anti -submarine defense and air defense .

properties

With a length of 104.5 meters, the ships of the Stereguschtschi class displace around 2,200 tons. They are 14 meters wide and have a draft of 3.70 meters. The steel hull is divided into nine departments, which are also designed as ship safety zones . Stealth technologies were used in the construction . This can be clearly seen from the large, flat and angularly arranged surfaces on the fuselage and superstructure. In addition, the weapons and sensors are disguised for stealth. A radar-absorbing coating on the composite structures also ensures less radar reflection . Signature reductions have also been implemented in the magnet, infrared and acoustic areas.

The modular structure makes it easier (especially in export) to equip weapon and sensor systems according to the customer's special requirements. This also results in savings in construction, maintenance and subsequent modernization. The Stereguschtschi class is designed for a service period of 30 years. The hangar and flight deck are designed to take along and operate a 12-ton helicopter . The duration of use is specified as 15 days. The crew including the flying personnel is 100 people.

technology

drive

Four Russian 16D49 marine diesel engines from Kolomenskij Zawod with a total output of 17.65 MW form the CODAD (Combined Diesel and Diesel) propulsion system . The corvettes can reach a top speed of 26 knots via two screws with controllable pitch propellers . The machines are stored in a soundproof manner. At an economical speed of 14 knots, the Stereguschtschi class has a range of 3,500 nautical miles . It can also be designed as a CODAG (Combined Diesel And Gas) system with two diesel engines and two gas turbines . In this version, the ships would reach a top speed of 30 knots. For newer units, the use of diesels from MTU Friedrichshafen is being considered.

Armament

The anti-ship armament consists of two quadruple launchers for anti- ship missiles 3M24 . The systems are located behind a panel between the chimney and the front mast. The range of the Mach 0.8 fast missile is between 5 and 130 km. On the forecastle there is an A-190E cannon, caliber 100 millimeters, with a stealth fairing. It can be used to combat sea, air and land targets. The range is given as 21 kilometers and the cadence as 80 rounds per minute.

The "Paket-NK" torpedo system consisting of eight 324 mm tubes is available for anti-submarine defense . It is able to carry two different types of torpedoes, with which both enemy submarines and torpedoes can be fought. The on -board helicopter Kamow Ka-27PL is another component for anti-submarine defense.

The hybrid system Kortik is located in front of the bridge on the type ship for air defense in the immediate area . The system consists of two six-barreled AK-630 guns with a caliber of 30 millimeters, two quadruple launchers for 9M311 anti-aircraft missiles , a radar system for fire control and target tracking and an electro-optical sensor . The operating distances are 500 to 4,000 meters for the AK-630 guns and 1,500 to 8,000 meters for the missiles. At heights 3,000 or 4,000 meters can be reached. The barrel guns have a rate of 5,000 rounds per minute. A stock of 64 missiles is available.

The newly developed 3K96 Poliment-Redut anti-aircraft missile system is used in the following units instead of the Kortik system . It contains a VLS with 12 cells which can be equipped with 9M96 guided missiles with a range of 40–120 km or quad packs with the 9M100 guided missiles that can be used at close range.

Sensors

A Furke-2 3D air surveillance radar is installed in the radome of the front mast. Below is the maritime surveillance radar, which cannot be seen optically through the mast cladding. The air defense fire control is carried out by the Radar Monument and the 5P10E Puma-E fire control radar .

The sonar equipment includes a bug sonar Zarja-ME with a range of 19 kilometers and a low-frequency towed sonar type Winejtka-EM . In passive operation it has a range of 15 to 20 km and when used actively it has a range of 40 to 60 km.

Project 20385

The 20385 project represents a further development of the Stereguschtschi class. The changes include an elongated hull with a new armament configuration. The Redut air defense system is supplemented by the PESA radar system Poliment and its now 16 cells migrate to the sides of the helipad in the stern of the ship. The space in front of the bridge is instead taken by the UKSK-VLS , whose 8 cells can accommodate BrahMos , P-800 and Club guided weapons in any variation. The maximum deployment displacement increases to around 2,500 tons.

Although the type ship Stereguschtschi was to be handed over to WMF in 2004, the program was delayed due to rising construction costs, caused by design defects and technical problems. After the equipment in the dock, the sea trials began on November 10, 2006. On November 15, 2007, the Stereguschtschi was officially handed over to the WMF. However, after technical malfunctions repeatedly occurred during the tests, the ship went through a further test phase before it was put into service with the Baltic fleet .

The Stereguschtschi program is one of the most important programs in Russian military shipbuilding, along with the new strategic U-cruisers from Project 955 , Project 677 , which was discontinued in 2016 due to technical problems, and the multi-purpose combat ships from Project 22350, and represents an important technological leap. At the beginning of the program, WMF estimated a need for 40 ships, ten of which were to be distributed across the four main fleets. On February 1, 2012, the Russian Navy ordered 10 corvettes of the modified project 20385.
