The A190 Universal ( Russian "Универсал" ) is a naval gun that was developed in Russia for small and medium-sized ships. It is used by the Russian Navy and the Navy of India .

development

The weapon system is a further development of the AK-176 , which was still developed in the Soviet Union . The gun and turret were adapted to the 100 mm caliber and improved performance data compared to the older 100 mm AK-100 were achieved - with only a third of the weight of the AK-100.

The first attempt to use the A190 as armament for the new Russian warships of Project 20380 almost failed because the manufacturer initially chosen by the Ministry of Defense, the machine factory Arsenal of the Severnaya shipyard , which built the ships, was unable to meet the requirements of the development office “Burewestnik” for the A190 on time and at acceptable prices, so that naval representatives snubbed the industry with the announcement that in the event of persistent deficiencies, they wanted to buy guns for the navy abroad.

The “Burewestnik” development team finally found a suitable manufacturer in 2010 in Motowilichinskije zavody in Perm . The factory, which actually had its main focus on building land-based artillery , was able to meet all requirements.

Variants and names

The system designation A-190-5P-10 ( Russian А-190-5П-10 ) describes the combination of one or two A190 guns and the 5P-10 fire control radar .

A190E (А190Э)

The A190E is the original version of the weapon installed on the Indian Talwar-class frigates (Project 1135.6). It reaches 60 rounds per minute at a range of 15,000 meters.

A190-01 (А190-01)

The turret of the A190-01 version is shaped in such a way that it has a smaller radar reflective surface than its predecessor. According to the manufacturer, parts of the gun have been redesigned so that a higher initial speed and cadence of the projectiles compared to the previous model A190E is achieved. The cadence is given as 80 rounds per minute and the range at around 20,000 meters. The gun with ammunition feed weighs 15 tons. The magazine is filled with 80 rounds of ready-to-use ammunition.

The system is installed on the ships in project 20380 and 21630 .
