Armament

Project 58 , designated by NATO as the Kynda-class , was a cruiser class of the Soviet and Russian navies . Classified as CG (cruiser guided missiles), these ships were among the first in their class.

history

With the development of Project 58, parallel to the order in OKB 52, began in 1956 to develop the SS-N 3 , which was to represent the main armament of Project 58. The four units were laid down from 1960 to 1961.

construction

Armament

Project 58 was the first Soviet missile cruiser class and one of the first ship classes designed for anti-naval combat by SSMs. The eight SS-N 3s formed the main armament of the Kynda class. Airspace security was ensured at altitudes of 100 m to 25 km and up to a distance of 25 km by anti-aircraft missiles of the type SA-N-1 Goa . Against ship, land and air targets in the range up to max. Two double-barreled AK-726 (76 mm) could be used for 15 km . Two RBU-6000s and two three-tube torpedo launchers (533 mm) were available for ASW use . The torpedoes could also be used against ship targets.

Dimensions and drive

Project 58 was 142 m long, 16 m wide and 5 m deep than ships of the decommissioned Fletcher class , or other destroyers and frigates, but slightly smaller than the American Arleigh Burke and Ticonderoga classes. The ships of the Kynda class were propelled by a total of four boilers and two turbines, which had an approximate output of 100,000 hp and could accelerate the ships to a maximum speed of 35 kn .

Electronic systems

On the ships of the Kynda class were: two Head Net A and / or C (air surveillance), two Scoop Pairs ( SS-N-3 Shaddock steering), one Peel Group ( SA-N-1 Goa steering), one Owl Screech (Fire control), two Bass Tilt (fire control, only on Grozny and Varyag), and two Don-2 radars (navigation) installed. Optical systems for target acquisition, identification and navigation: two Tee Plinth o Plinth Net. Sonar: a wolf paw. ECM / ESM: two Watch Dogs, one Bell Clout, one Bell Slam, one Bell Tap, and four Top Hat,
