The AK-726 (The abbreviation stands for AK Артиллерийский комплекс (Artillerijskij kompleks dt .: Artillery complex)) is a double-barreled naval gun of caliber 76.2 mm, which in the Soviet Union was developed and still is in various navies in service.

history

1954 began in the Soviet Union the development of a naval gun that can be used against air and sea targets. The gun was developed by the development office ZKB-7 (later Arsenal ) under the direction of S. Tyurin. The first tests began in 1956–1957. In 1958 a first prototype of the gun was built. From 1960, the guns were installed and tested on ships for the first time. The first gun was installed on the Grozny (Russian: Грозный ), a Kynda-class cruiser (Project 58). A second was installed in 1962 on the Komsomolets Ukrainy (Russian: Комсомолец Украины ), the first ship of the Kashin class (Project 61). The system was officially introduced on June 24, 1964. The guns were exported to various countries over the years. Due to the small caliber and the poor effect, they were soon replaced by the AK-100 in caliber 100 mm.

construction

description

The gun has two 76.2 mm caliber barrels. The projectiles are transported from the ammunition chamber into the gun using a hand-loaded elevator. The gun itself is charged automatically. Thus a theoretical would cadence of about 100 rounds per minute achieved, but the barrels 40 to 45 shot continuous fire must be cooled three minutes long.

Fire control is carried out either automatically via a fire control radar of the type MR-105 Turel (Russian: Турель ; NATO code: Screech Owl), semi-automatically, with the shooter supported by the radar, or manually, with the shooter having to aim purely optically. The gun can be used against aircraft, sea or land targets . There are two different types of ammunition available.
