Lists on the subject |
The Kord is a heavy Russian machine gun with a caliber of 12.7 × 108 mm . The GRAY index of the weapon is 6P49 .
history
The predecessor of this model was the NSW-MG . This was produced in the Kazakh Uralsk , which is now abroad after the collapse of the Soviet Union . Construction plans and production equipment remained there. Instead of recreating the NSW in its original form in Russia, it was decided to design an improved successor model. Production was relocated to the Degtjarjowwerk in Kowrow . An export version was planned, but due to a lack of demand from abroad, the Army of the Russian Federation remained the only customer.
technology
The lock that clicks into the left side of the housing on the NSW has been replaced by a more robust rotary head lock . The mouth has been redesigned; a muzzle brake reduces recoil. This made it possible to develop an infantry version with a simple bipod. For a machine gun of this caliber, the cord is comparatively easy to carry and mobile. The course of the Kord withstands continuous fire far better than that of the NSW and scatters less when heated up. On the left side of the system box there is a mounting rail to which Soviet / Russian standard optics can be attached.
NSW and cord are very similar and can only be distinguished from one another by the rivets on the clasp. The NSW has more rivets than the cord in the front left and middle locking parts. The Kord's 6T19 bipod is permanently attached to the weapon and is not removed even when the Kord is used on a tripod mount.
