The ss Corporal (short: Rottenf , Address: pack leader ) was in the German Empire from 1934 to 1945, the highest rank of the rank group of the teams of the Schutzstaffel (SS).

origin

The naming for this rank was derived from Rotte , the name for the smallest sub-unit in the Sturmabteilung (SA) and Schutzstaffel (SS). The group comprised four SA and SS men and was subordinate to a group leader. The name was used by all SA and SS divisions. The SS-Rotte of the Waffen-SS corresponded to the troop in the Wehrmacht .

introduction

Rottenführer was originally an SA rank designation. In connection with the increase in personnel in the Nazi regime, additional ranks were introduced and this rank was also taken over by the SS.

Armed SS

Compared to the Allgemeine SS, the requirements for an SS Rottenführer of the Waffen SS were higher. The Rottenführer of the Waffen SS was not a sergeant, but was in command of four SS ranks.

The pictures show the badges of rank or rank badges that were worn as shoulder pieces , collar tabs and sleeve badges . The collar tabs with SS runes and the badge of rank were worn on the field-gray uniform jacket of the Waffen-SS or the gray field blouse.

Ranking and insignia

This SS rank was equal to the SA-Scharführer and the corporal at the time in the army and air force of the Wehrmacht . According to today's NATO rank codes , these ranks would be comparable to Junior OR-3 . The piping of the shoulder pieces was kept in the weapon color specified for soldiers of the Waffen-SS .
