The SS-Stabsscharführer (short: Stascha ; address: Stabsscharführer ) was in the German Reich until 1945 the service designation for the post or the prominent use as a company sergeant , also "spit" in a company (up to approx. 120 SS soldiers) Waffen SS . This service designation was introduced specifically for the Waffen-SS , but was later also used in other areas of the Schutzstaffel , such as the SS skull and crossbones associations .

The SS-Stabsscharführer was modeled on the sergeant major (short: HptFw ; colloquial: "Spieß", also "mother of the company") introduced into the Wehrmacht in 1938 .

As a rule, senior and experienced SS-Oberscharführer or SS-Hauptscharführer were instructed in this position if they were suitably qualified and if necessary. The hallmarks were two 10 mm wide, silver-colored NCO strands sewn in parallel, the "piston rings" (5 mm apart) on both cuffs of the uniform jacket, parade skirt and uniform coat. During the war there was also the job title "Stabsscharführer-Diensttuer". In exceptional cases, SS-Scharführer (comparable to today's staff sergeant OR-5) were also deployed for this purpose.

particularities

In the hierarchy of the Waffen-SS , the Stabsscharführer was usually the longest serving sergeant in the company area (before 1935 SS-Sturm ), a unit comparable to the company in the army and air force . He was comparable to the spit, company sergeant or "Hauptfeldwebel-Diensttuer".

  1. Even in the SS available troops, there were efforts to use army designations against Heinrich Himmler's resistance, mainly through high-ranking SS soldiers with Wehrmacht stamps. With the transition of the available troops to the Waffen-SS, which grew into a mass army with more than 900,000 men and the advancing duration of the war, customary terms, insignia and weapon colors were used (wherever possible and sensible) .
