Field hockey
The sports and social club has its own artificial turf pitch on the edge of the Jena district of Lobeda-West . The surface, which was renewed in 2014, meets the current standards in hockey.
Indoor hockey
SSC Jena does not have its own hall for the winter season. Various sports halls in Jena are used as training and game locations. These include the Sportforum Jena and the Dreifelderhalle of the State Vocational School Center Jena-Göschwitz.
Inline hockey
Since inline hockey is so far not very popular in Thuringia, the SSC Jena currently plays in the Saxon Inline Hockey League. The Dreifelderhalle of the State Vocational School Center Jena-Göschwitz is used for training and home games.
history
1911-1945
In November 1911 the VfB Jena (association for movement games with athletics, soccer and hockey) was founded by Eugen Popp, Willi Völker, Otto Leonhardt, Hans Rudolph Götting and Walter Männel. The first hockey game in Thuringia between VfB Jena and SC Erfurt (1: 1) took place in Jena on December 10, 1911.
After VfB Jena, another Jena hockey club, ATV Gothania Jena, was founded in 1911, but its activity can only be proven until around 1914.
In March 1918 the hockey department of the 1st sports club (SV) 1901 Jena was founded, and in 1923 the hockey department in the Wenigenjena gymnastics club was founded.
1945-1989
Shortly after the end of the Second World War, hockey was only permitted at the municipal level in the Soviet occupation zone, and from 1946 beyond the district boundaries. As a result, hockey divisions were formed in 1947/48 in the federal states, including Thuringia. In 1948/49 BSG Schott-Ost Jena (from 1950 BSG Chemie Jena ) and BSG Mechanik Jena (from 1950 BSG Motor Zeiss Jena ), each with their own hockey division.
From 1949, the game began again for women and men. In 1951 the first Thuringian state championships were held in the hall. The first champions were the women, men and female youth - BSG Motor Zeiss Jena and the male youth - BSG KWU Erfurt.
In 1953 hockey competitive sports centers were founded in the GDR. In this context, SC Motor Jena was founded in Jena .
In 1982 BSG Chemie Jena was renamed BSG Jenapharm Jena.
1989-2002
In 1989 BSG Jenapharm Jena was renamed SV Jenapharm Jena e. V. and in 1990 the renaming of BSG Carl Zeiss Jena to SV Carl Zeiss Jena e. V.
In 1999, SV Jenapharm lost the opportunity to play on the “community sports facility Uni / Schott / Jenapharm” because the facility was transferred back to the Friedrich Schiller University . The training and game operations of the hockey departments of the SV Carl Zeiss Jena and the SV Jenapharm Jena took place from this point on in the Ernst Abbe sports field without a contract with the city of Jena.
2002 – today
On December 9, 2002, SSC Jena e. V. ("Sport and Social Club Jena eV") as a merger of the hockey departments of SV Carl Zeiss Jena e. V. and part of SV Jenapharm Jena e. V. founded. The main goal was to create our own artificial turf sports facility to lay the foundation for the continued existence of hockey in Jena. Founding members of SSC Jena e. V. were R. Drechsler, R. Partschefeld, M. Elle, L. Schmidt, T. Schöttke, M. Krüger and B. Krüger.
The first general meeting was held on May 5, 2003. The first chairman of the SSC Jena was Ralph Partschefeld.
In March 2003 the building lease was concluded and in April the first work was carried out to clear the area. The construction of the artificial turf began in the autumn of the same year and lasted until August 2004. At that time, it was the 2nd artificial hockey sports facility in Thuringia. The official inauguration of the facility took place on May 28, 2005.
Tournaments
The East German championship for girls and boys B, the Saalepokal, has been held in Jena since 2014. The Jena Schnapphans hockey tournament takes place at irregular intervals in the parents' hockey area.
