The BSG Motor Zeiss Jena was founded in the early 1950s sports community in Thuringia, Jena . She only became known nationwide through her soccer section. BSG Motor Zeiss should not be confused with BSG Motor Jena , which was founded in 1951 and converted into SC Motor Jena in 1954 .

history

As part of the formation of company sports associations (BSG) in the GDR's sports company, the state-owned company (VEB) Carl Zeiss Jena also founded its own BSG, which was named BSG Motor Zeiss Jena according to its assignment to the metal trade union organization . As usual, the BSG offered several sports sections, of which, however, only the football section achieved supra-regional importance.

At the level of the GDR district of Gera , BSG Motor Zeiss first appeared in 1956 as a promoter in the fourth-class district league . They became the surprise team, as they immediately won the district championship as a freshman. In the promotion round to the 2nd GDR league failed the Jena and fell back in the 1957 season in the district league to the 11th. A year later, the team had to relegate as 13th and penultimate from the district league.

Only in 1960 succeeded in returning to the district league. In the following season, GDR football was switched to the summer-spring rhythm, while the Gera district league was divided into two seasons. In the 1961/62 season, which ran over 33 laps, BSG Motor Zeiss again managed to march through to the district championship. This time this automatically entitle the holder to promotion to the 2nd GDR League, in which the Zeiss-BSG reached 5th place among the 14 teams of the 5th season in 1962/63 . At the beginning of 1963, the former GDR player Karl Schnieke took over the training. However, the good placement was a Pyrrhic victory, as the II. GDR League was dissolved after the end of the season. From 1963/64, Motor Zeiss returned to the Gera district league, now in third class. After a 5th place in 1964, the Jena won the district championship for the third time in 1965, but could not prevail in the promotion round to the GDR league . During the 1965/66 season, the soccer section of BSG Motor Zeiss Jena was integrated into the newly founded FC Carl Zeiss Jena and continued to play as FC Carl Zeiss Jena II from 1966.
