The SSC Tuatara (named after the in New Zealand living tuatara , Maori tuatara "spiny back") is a prototype of a super sports car of SSC North America . It should be the fastest production car in the world to be registered on the road. According to the manufacturer, this is the only reason the car was built.
With the SSC Aero 2007, SSC North America set the record carrier with a top speed of 412 km / h. Three years later, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 reached a top speed of 431 km / h. However, this was a modified Bugatti and therefore not a production car - these are limited to 415 km / h. The SSC Tuatara should reach a top speed of 440 km / h and thus set this record. This is made possible by a V8 biturbo developed in-house with a displacement of around seven liters. The acquisition costs should be the equivalent of 736,300 euros. Previous tests with the 6.8 liter twin turbo engine have been positive. In the basic configuration, the sports car should produce 1,007 kW (1,369 PS), but according to the manufacturer, up to 1,250 kW (1,700 PS) are possible.
