SSV Rheydt
The Rheydt Swimming Association (SSV Rheydt) was founded in 1903 and today consists of four departments ( swimming , water polo , jumping and canoeing ).
history
After its establishment in 1903, the club produced several important swimmers. Including Paul Voell, who was German champion in the 100 m freestyle five times in a row between 1954 and 1958 . In 1968 the former German jumping champion Herbert Barendt was the trainer of the art jumpers and took part in the Summer Olympics as Bernd Wucherpfennig's supervisor . In the late '70s was Ute Neubert in the years 1978 , 1979 and 1980 respectively over 100m backstroke German champion. Participation in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow was denied her by the 1980 Olympic boycott.
