STN (database)

STN (actually: STN International) is the abbreviation for "The S cientific & T echnical Information N etwork". STN International is an online service operated jointly by the Fachinformationszentrum (FIZ) Karlsruhe and the American Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), a division of the American Chemical Society (ACS), and operated in Japan by the Japan Association for International Chemical Information (JAICI ) is represented.

Range of offers

STN offers around 200 databases with scientific and technical information on the state of the art in patent law ( chemistry , physics , materials science , mathematics , computer science , geosciences , biosciences , patents ). The retrieval functions of the query language MESSENGER allow text searches, research with chemical structures and the output of graphic representations. In addition, tools are available for the analysis and visualization of search results as well as for the creation of result reports.

Access to the original literature is secured by linking the database documents to electronically available full texts from international scientific publishers and patent offices as well as to FIZ Karlsruhe's full text service FIZ AutoDoc.

One means of accessing the available databases is the web-based surface STN on the Web. The surface STN Sneak Preview can be used for test research, which offers free access to a total of five training databases.
