Dialog , a subsidiary of the American company ProQuest is a host for online databases preferred by information brokers be taken advantage of, but also offers products for end users to. Dialog is the world market leader and one of the most important hosts in the USA . Due to the strong competition, the market share in the German-speaking area is low.
history
Dialog was founded by Lockheed in 1965 and sold in 1972 and is considered the first commercial online service ever.
The owners have changed several times since it was founded. In early 2000 , the Dialog Corporation was sold by the then owner MAID to the Canadian conglomerate The Thomson Corporation . There it was settled in the main company Thomson Legal & Regulatory . In 2001 Thomson Corporation acquired NewsEdge , a real-time news provider , and incorporated it into Dialog. In mid-2008, Dialog was sold to ProQuest by Thomson Reuters.

The headquarters of dialog is located in Cary , North Carolina . Computer operation is ensured from the four locations in Boston , Mountain View (California), Bern and London . With 1,200 databases of services and products Dialog , Dialog Profound , Dialog DataStar , Dialog NewsEdge and Dialog Intelliscope uses dialogue to a total amount of data of more than 15 terabytes in some 1.4 billion records back.
Dialog does not build on its own information content, but cooperates with database producers, primarily former sister companies from the Thomson Group .
