STRAFE FR is a music formation from Düsseldorf . It was founded in 1979 by Bernd Kastner and Siegfried M. Syniuga and is active in the field of avant-garde music and art . Pronounced the title of the formation is "Strafe Für Rebellion".

style

The musicians do not use electronic musical instruments. They draw part of their sound repertoire from self-made recordings of nature noises, animal sounds or machines.

They also use conventional musical instruments. These are often treated unusually, for example played under water or specially prepared, sometimes also deliberately partially destroyed. The formation also develops new, own musical instruments and noise machines. Over time, they have built up an extensive sound archive. Over the years, the music formation has invited numerous guest musicians to play traditional musical instruments from all over the world.

In addition, sounds are electrically distorted, slowed down with analog tape or played back via manipulated loudspeakers, in order to be recorded again. Even apparent noise, such as humming, crackling and any malfunctions in the equipment used, can flow into a composition.

In the vocal area, the formation also goes unusual ways. The spectrum ranges from vocal artistry to the engagement of opera singers.

The musicians attach great importance to the acoustics during the recording. They sometimes carry out field recordings at special locations with strange sound events. They use selected special microphones to capture the atmosphere during the recording.

other activities

The formation also has radio plays z. B. published with Radio Hilversum NL. When they performed at the ICA in Boston in 1988, they developed a stage performance about the Morgenthau Plan . There are also sound installations in nature or in public spaces, such as in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (Düsseldorf Sounds 2007). Film projects have been realized with WDR television (Neanderthal 1988) , among others .
