The SVS Merkstein (officially: Sportverein Streiffeld 1919 Merkstein eV ) is a sports club from the Herzogenrath district of Merkstein in the Aachen city region . The first soccer team played for eleven years in the highest amateur league on the Middle Rhine.

history

The club was founded in 1919 as SV Merkstein-Streiffeld . After many decades in the lower leagues, he was promoted to the district class in 1947. Two years later the team secured the championship and rose to the newly created state league , which from 1949 formed the highest amateur league in the Middle Rhine region. A year later, the association took its current name.

The early 1950s were the SVS's most successful period. In 1952 the Merkstein runners-up were one point behind Viktoria Alsdorf . A year later, the SVS was runner-up behind SpVg Frechen 20 . Over the course of the season, SV Eilendorf was beaten 10-0. In 1956 , the team qualified for the newly created Mittelrhein Association League, from which they relegated four years later. In 1963, the Merksteiners were also relegated from the regional league.

After a temporary rise, it went back down to the district class in 1968. In 2002 the club withdrew its team from the district league to the district league A despite having achieved relegation. From there it went a year later in the district league B and in 2005 in the district league C down. Although they were promoted again in 2008, just four years later the SVS had to return to the district league C, the lowest division. In 2017 he was promoted to the district league B.
