SWR2 stumbling blocks to hear

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SWR2 Stolpersteine for Hearing are a project of the Südwestrundfunk , which takes up the idea of the artist Gunter Demnig . The life stories of those persecuted by the Nazi regime in the SWR2 broadcast area are presented in one to three-minute contributions . Each of these “acoustic stumbling blocks” has a corresponding counterpart at the previous place of residence of the person. The project started on November 8, 2013 and ended on May 8, 2015.

“Stumbling blocks” on the radio

The acoustic “stumbling blocks” were broadcast at different times of the day in SWR2. They make the individual life stories of those persecuted by the Nazi regime who lived in the broadcast area audible. The framework is formed by the rudimentary life data that are engraved on the stumbling blocks . Excerpts from letters, diary entries and interviews with contemporary witnesses resulted in biographical collages that have the character of fragments of memories. They tell of individual fates and also take a look at the personal and historical environment during the Nazi regime.

The SWR2 stumbling blocks on the Internet

The stumbling blocks can be listened to at any time on the SWR2 website. They are processed there with further archive material on the individual fates. Personal documents, photo albums and videos complement these life stories. Over a period of one and a half years, an audio archive was created with stumbling blocks from the entire SWR broadcasting area - also in exchange with the listeners, who were called on to contribute documents and make suggestions.

Stumbling blocks app

The SWR2 stumbling blocks are integrated in the smartphone app “Stolpersteine Guide” and their entire online offer can be accessed on mobile devices ( Android and iOS ). With the help of a map and location determination , it is possible to call up additional information about a corresponding stumbling block directly on site. The development of the app started in 2012 as a university project of the Trier University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the Trier Stolpersteininitiative AG Frieden . The “Stolpersteine Guide” was created under the supervision of lecturer Marcus Haberkorn together with the students Alexander Prümm, Peter Nürnberger and Kim-Julian Becker.
