life and work

Coming from a Jewish family, he studied medicine in Iași and Bucharest and was a trained military doctor in 1927. However, he was more interested in a literary career that began in 1925 when he inspired symbolism- inspired poetry under the title Răbojul unui muritor .

Pană was mainly interested in Dadaist , later on Surrealist topics. In 1928 he published the avant-garde magazine unu . In addition to his own books, he also published works by Urmuz , Tristan Tzara , Stephan Roll and Ilarie Voronca at the publishing house of the same name . For his writing he adapted the technique of surrealist automatism from André Breton - Diagrame (1930), Echinox orbitor (1931) and Viaţa romanţată a lui Dumnezeu (1932). Pană's later publications, however, open his style towards more traditional writing techniques.

Many of his book publications have been illustrated by well-known artists such as MH Maxy , Victor Brauner , Marcel Janco , Man Ray and Pablo Picasso .
