Saad al-Katatni

Mohamed Saad Tawfik al-Katatni ( Arabic محمد سعد توفيق الكتاتني, DMG Muḥammad Saʿd Taufīq al-Katātinī ; * April 3, 1952 in Girga ) is an Islamist politician in Egypt . He was President of Parliament for six months in 2012 and has been Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party , the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood , since October 19, 2012 .

Life

Al-Katatni graduated from the Science Faculty of the University of al-Minya in 1974 and also received a bachelor's degree in literature from the same university. He received a master's degree in natural sciences and did his doctorate in the same subject in 1984.

Al-Katatni was originally a member of the leadership council of the Muslim Brotherhood. Since the Freedom and Justice Party was founded on April 30, 2011, al-Katatni has served as general secretary of the Islamist party established by the Muslim Brotherhood Organization. On January 23, 2012, he was appointed President of the Egyptian People's Assembly . After its dissolution, he became chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party. In July 2013, he was arrested as part of the events surrounding the removal of Mohammed Morsi by the military.
