The Saalfeld Vocalists are a male double quartet from Saalfeld / Thuringia who perform mainly a cappella . Her repertoire consists of, among other things, classical choral music from six centuries, but also contemporary music.

history

The Saalfeld Vocalists, a men's double quartet, are - with the exception of one singer who has his singing roots in Leipzig - former Thuringian Boys' Choir . In this boys' choir , which has existed in Saalfeld since 1950 , the singers received fundamental and formative musical training for more than ten years under the direction of KMD Walter Schönheit (1927–1985) and subsequently by the Gewandhaus organist Michael Schönheit (* 1961) from the age of eight .

The first "rehearsal" of the later Saalfeld vocalists took place in a small group at the beginning of July 1984 together with Michael Schönheit in Henrik Pfeiffer's room, the first public concert in 1987.
Over the next 25 years they developed into a powerful ensemble , what with a broad one Spectrum of choral music a cappella and also performs regularly in collaboration with vocal and instrumental musicians in Thuringia, Germany and internationally.

After the USA (2000) and Japan (2007), the double quartet traveled to South Africa in 2011.

description

The songs of the old masters, the Liedertafelzeit, folk and drinking songs, hits by the Comedian Harmonists are just as much a part of their repertoire as contemporary literature. The main focus is on the interpretation of sacred a cappella choral music due to the character of the church choir.
