Useldingen Castle is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle on a hill above the Attert in the city center of the Luxembourg municipality of Useldingen .
history
The construction of Useldingen Castle is related to the rule of Useldingen, which arose around 1100 through the division of inheritance. After the lords of Useldingen died out in 1415, Jean de Rodemacher married Irmgard de Boulay and became the owner of the castle.
In 1479, Emperor Maximilian I confiscated the property and placed it in the care of Margrave Christoph I of Baden . The castle and chapel were badly damaged in the Burgundian Wars . In 1674 Wilhelm von Nassau-Vianden inherited the castle and sold it to Franz-Sebastian Bauer from Everlingen. The complex continued to deteriorate, and finally the castle chapel was removed in 1903 .
In 1924 Francis Kuhn-Wolff, who came from Useldingen and emigrated to the United States, bought the ruins. After securing the walls and the keep, the family built a modern villa over the ruins in 1934, which is now used as the town hall.
