The saasfee * soundpark is a sound art project by the saasfee * collective in Frankfurt am Main . The park, which is laid out in a public green area, is part of the exhibition program of the local art and exhibition space saasfee * pavillon .

Green area and sound installations

The publicly funded project started in 2017 with a series of events to which the collective invites selected musicians to compose a site-specific sound installation or sound collage. An underground garden located below the pavilion in the Eschenheimer Anlage of the Frankfurt Wallanlagen , in the vicinity of the Eschenheimer Tower , provides the spatial template for the development of the sound compositions. This neo-baroque ornamental garden goes back to the beginning of the 19th century; it was created on the site of the previously razed Frankfurt city fortifications . In its current form, the underground garden in the Eschenheimer Anlage is a horticultural reminiscence of earlier upper-class gardens ("Wall gardens") in the Frankfurt Anlagenring. In publications by the City of Frankfurt, the park, which was redesigned in 1982, is referred to as the “Bürgergarten” and as a “historical puzzle” made up of original parts (fountains, columns, terraces).

Soundpark loudspeaker box

According to the organizer, the sound compositions presented in the underground garden should "create conscious moments of sensual irritation as artistic interventions in public space" and "be an acoustic invitation to the recipient to experience the familiar terrain anew". Several weatherproof loudspeaker boxes are installed throughout the park for sound reproduction. The hidden boxes (see photo) allow a spatial experience of the sound installations; Depending on the location of the visitors in the park, the acoustic impression of the played sound art works changes.
