The Journal Frankfurt is in Frankfurt appearing city magazine .

history

The Journal Frankfurt was created in 1990 from the merger of city magazines paving beach and appearance . Daniel Cohn-Bendit , founder and publisher of the left-wing magazine Pflasterstrand , is still closely associated with Journal Frankfurt and writes regularly as a columnist for the magazine. The journalist and “futurologist” Matthias Horx was the first editor-in-chief of the journal . Horx had previously worked for the paved beach . Other editors-in-chief included Helmut Ortner , Boris Tomic and Nils Bremer . As the first woman in the 30-year history of Journal Frankfurt , Ronja Merkel took over the position of editor-in-chief on September 1, 2018.

The magazine was published fortnightly until December 2017. With the January 2018 edition, the responsible Presse Verlagsgesellschaft mbH switched to a monthly publication. With a circulation of around 30,000 copies (approx. 100,000 readers), the journal is the city magazine with the highest circulation in Germany , ahead of the Berlin magazines Tip and Zitty . According to the publisher, the associated online magazine www.journal-frankfurt.de has an average of 1.3 million page views per month and thus reaches more than 250,000 readers. The online newsletter journal - the day is sent to 50,000 subscribers every weekday. The Journal app has also been available since the beginning of 2018.

Content

In addition to current reports from Frankfurt and the surrounding area, it offers reports and reviews on current events. In December 2018, Merkel announced that the Journal Frankfurt should become more political in the future, as current social developments and debates require a clear stance. In this context, the journal should become a new left-liberal voice in Frankfurt. For this reason, too, on the occasion of the Hessian state election in 2018 , the magazine deliberately refrained from introducing the AfD candidates in a series of interviews with the top candidates of the most important parties .
