Uwe Schmidt (musician)
Uwe Schmidt (* 1968 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German musician who primarily produces in the field of electronic music . Schmidt has published his own productions under more than 60 different pseudonyms so far , of which Atom Heart , Atom ™ , Lassigue Bendthaus , LB and Señor Coconut are among the best known. There are also numerous project names for collaborations with other artists such as Alain Baumann , Pascal Dardoufas , Tetsu Inoue , Martin Schopf , Haruomi Hosono , Jörg Henze , Peter Kuhlmann , Olaf Finkbeiner and Bill Laswell .
Life
Schmidt gained his first musical experience as a drummer in the mid-1980s . At this time he founded the cassette label NG Medien together with other artists and produced various ambient and industrial tracks as Lassigue Bendthaus and under other pseudonyms . In the 1990s, the first international publications followed in Great Britain, France, Belgium and Spain. Together with Ata and Marc Trauner he published as Killerloops , with Ata and Heiko M / S / O as Ongaku . He founded his own label Rather Interesting in 1994.
Three years later, bored with the European music world, he moved to Chile and settled there in the capital Santiago de Chile . Influenced by the rhythms of Latin American dances such as Cha-Cha-Cha and Rumba he published in 2000 as Señor Coconut album El baile inglés, on which he pieces the German band Kraftwerk as Latin versions coverte . The single Tour de France reached the German dance charts.
In 1998 the album Pop Artificielle was released under the alias LB with cover versions a. a. by James Brown , Prince and David Bowie from the 1980s. Since 1999 Schmidt has released several albums together with Bernd Friedmann under the project name Flanger .
The album "Fiesta Songs" followed in 2003 under the project name Señor Coconut and his Orchestra , on which Schmidt reinterpreted songs by Michael Jackson ( Beat It ) and Deep Purple ( Smoke on the Water ), among others . Three years later he also released the album Yellow Fever as Señor Coconut and his Orchestra with 20 cover versions of pieces by the Japanese electro-pop trio Yellow Magic Orchestra . In 2008 he brought out another album with cover versions on Around the World , this time, for example, of Da Da Da I don't love you you don't love me aha aha aha by Trio and Kiss by Prince .
The end of 2013, together with founded Schmidt Material Object label No. as a "platform for audio adventures".
Schmidt was a co-founder of MACOS (Musicians Against Copyrighting Of Samples), an artist association that rejects all copyright of samples . He has since distanced himself from MACOS and is no longer a member.
